Students! Are you interested in important, up-to-date information regarding immigration? Do you have questions about possible changes to laws and federal/state programs that may affect you or your loved ones? We will be holding a small workshop on Friday, February 17th where you can come to a safe space and ask questions with experts on immigration status and learn about immigrant rights. This event will be held both during 4th period and lunch in the library. If you’d like to attend the 4th period program, please see Ms. Jenny in the main office to get a pass. It will be limited to 40 students on a first-come, first-serve basis and you MUST have a pass from your 4th period teacher. The lunchtime event will be open to all students.

Hall Decorating

Thank you to all of our clubs and programs for the outstanding Hall Decorations and sending us off to Winter Break with such spirit! The Winner of the 2016 Hall Decorating contest is The Gingerbread House, put on by Interact and CSF!

 

Make a Wish

Thanks to your letter writing, Macy’s donated over $1100 to the Make a Wish foundation, which helps grant wishes of sick and terminal children. Thank you for your continued support and effort to help us reach this goal!

 

FAB Equality Club

The FAB Equality Club is a new group that has formed for students who are trans, gay, lesbian, and bisexual. Join us during lunch on Wednesdays in room 802. All are welcome!

Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior Bracelets are now on sale! They are only $2 each! You can buy them from any Leadership Sophomore or from the Treasurer’s Office!

Golden Warrior Nominees

Golden Warrior is the highest honor that Ygnacio Valley bestows onto select Seniors at the end of the year. Seniors are nominated in the winter, and will be highlighted throughout the year, showcasing all of the amazing things our Warriors accomplish inside and outside of school. Our Class of 2017 Golden Warrior Nominees are: Darius McVay, Dalhya Gomez, Hunter Caldwell, Lauren Curtis, Matthew Tortolani, Max Loth, Ruby Mendoza, Jonathan Negrete, Paige Oka, Jacob Samuels, Gabriel Wence and John Delizo! Winter Spirit Week

It’s Winter Spirit Week- help us bring the end of the year in with Spirit! You can earn points for your grade by dressing up!

Today is Snow Day- Wear All White or Snow Gear. Tuesday- Holiday Hat Day, bust out those amazing holiday hats! Wednesday: Favorite Holiday Day= Dress as your Favorite Holiday Icon- Santa, Grinch, Halloween, it can be any holiday! Thursday-Ugly Holiday Sweater Day- raid Grandma’s closet for an amazing reindeer cat sweater! Friday- Pajama Day! Celebrate Winter Break by wearing your comfy cozies to school! You can bring your favorite stuffy to cuddle!

 

Spirit Point Standings

Here are the Spirit Points earned this year! You can earn more for your grade by dressing up for Winter Spirit Week! Freshmen- 397 points, Sophomores- 339 points, Juniors - 461 points, Seniors -525 points!

 

 

Carols by Candlelight

Come to YV's favorite holiday tradition, Carols by Candlelight! This great show is good for the whole family, and features YV choirs, guitars, and Dance 3! There is a donation requested at the door of $5. We are also collecting canned and boxed non-perishable food at the door for donation to the Monument Crisis Center. Shows are Monday and Tuesday, December 12th and 13th at 7pm. Don't miss this great performance!

 

Senior Breakfast

Senior Breakfast is on Friday, December 16 from 8:30-11:30.  Only three days left to purchase tickets! Tickets are $10 today and Tuesday and on Wednesday December 14 prices go up to $20. You must have a contract turned completed in order to attend. You must have a parent sign it and an admin approve it. Senior Breakfast will be a ton of fun! Lots of food, games, dancing, surprises and more! You don’t want to miss the last Senior Event of 2016!

 

Hall Decorating

Hall Decorating is happening on Wednesday, December 14 after school. We still have Room for Clubs to sign up. Everybody is welcome to come and help out. We will be decking the halls and having a great time together! Please join us!

 

Career and College Center

Saturday, December 17th from 10-2 pm. Come and help us wrap presents for homeless and needy children who are served by the Bay Area Rescue Mission! The event will be held at Contra Costa Christian High School 2721 Larkey Lane in Walnut Creek,.and you can participate for all or part of the time We will have verification forms for your community service as well as snacks and warm drinks. No wrapping experience necessary and all ages are welcome. Gift donations for the children are also welcome and encouraged! You can deliver the toys to the office at Contra Costa Christian High School during regular business hours.

Hey Warriors! You know those tickets you have been earning on campus? The first redemption day is Thursday December 8th! All you'll need to do is fully decorate a 12 inch by 12 inch card stock or poster board square with whatever "Health and Wellness" means to you. Turn it in on Monday, December 12th to your Wellness Center in room IC4. The winner will be notified on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. The winner will receive a $50.00 Visa gift card and lunch with the Wellness Center Group.If you have any questions or would like to see a sample, please visit your Wellness Center in room IC4. We are looking for acts for a Multicultural Rally! If you are interested in starting a group that others can join, come by Room 602! Women’s Basketball tryouts start Monday, November 7 from 7:00-8:30pm in the gym.

 

Winter Season Cheerleading Try-Outs

We will be having cheerleading tryouts starting on Monday, November 7th at 3:45-5:30 in the dance room.  Tryouts will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.  Paperwork and information will be passed out the first day.  We will be cheering at basketball and soccer games this year.   Come show your school spirit and join our team. Our Fall Blood Drive is on Thursday, October 27 in the gym. Ask your teachers if they are offering extra credit!

ASP Dance

Attention all Dance Performers! Interested in break dancing, choreographed dance or freestyle? The CARES After School Program is looking for dance performers of all kinds. Join in the CARES office Room 202!

 

Parking Permits

Parking Permits are now being enforced in the parking lot. You must display your permit in your car or you will receive a ticket. You can purchase a permit at the Treasurer’s Office before school, brunch, lunch and after school.

 

Student ID’s

All students are required to wear their current student ID around their neck on a lanyard. If you need to purchase a new one, they are $5 at the Treasurer's Office. If you forgot yours, you will be issued a one day temporary ID and then you will be fined everyday after until you have your ID. You can also purchase a YVHS lanyard at the Treasurer’s Office for $5.

Seniors with unexcused absence on May 16  will need to attend Saturday School on June 4.  You will receive your cap and gown when Saturday School is over. 

Senior Fines

In order to receive your diploma at the graduation ceremony, your fines must be paid in full.  Seniors who do not clear their fines can pick up their cap and gown after graduation rehearsal at the Main Office’s conference room, no later than 1:00pm that day, but your diploma will not be released until your fines are paid. 

You won’t be able to pay your fine at graduation rehearsal; you will need to see the Treasurer back at YVHS no later than 1:00pm Monday, June 6.   

Senior Transcripts

If you plan on attending a 2 year or 4 year school/college after graduation you need to send a final transcript (with your end of year grades) to the school/college.  Please fill out a final transcript request form at registrar’s office.  You will need address of college you plan to attend.  The transcript will be mailed out by June 17th.

Locker Cleanout

Locker Cleanout will be on Thursday, June 2. Students will be sent passes to clean out their lockers during assigned hallway times. All unclaimed items will be brought to the office to the lost and found. Please make sure all personal items are out of the lockers. Locks must be kept by underclassmen. Seniors, please turn in your locks.

PE LOCKS

Attention all students who purchased PE locks at the beginning of the year!  A $5  refund check was mailed to your homes in October to reimburse you for your payment for the lock.  Many checks remain uncashed!  Because you were given a refund for the padlock, the padlock became school property and must be turned back into your PE teacher at the end of the school year or you will receive a fine!    Look around your house or ask your parents, please find the checks and cash it!   See the Treasurer if you have any questions.

Mary Poppins

She's practically perfect... in every way!! Come see the Disney classic, Mary Poppins, as our Warriors bring her to life with all your favorite characters (and lots of new ones!) on stage for the first time in the East Bay! Don't miss this wonderful, magical, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious production!! Tickets are $5 for students for matinees (Saturday the 23rd and Saturday the 30th) and $8 for evening shows. Tickets are available through cast members, at the door, or online on the school website. Don't miss it!

 

Prom “A Night with Gatsby”

Prom tickets go on sale Monday, April 18. Contracts are available in the Main Office. In order to be eligible to attend, you must have less than 10 period unexcused absences starting 3rd Quarter, no F’s on your 3rd Quarter Report Card and No Suspensions.

We are giving you several opportunities to make all of these requirements up! We are offering Saturday School next Saturday to clear absences, go to the Main Office to pick up an application. If you received an F on your Report Card, bring a progress check sheet showing a D or higher from the teacher and that will clear you.

We want everybody to attend Prom and have an Amazing Night!

Gatsby has great things in store for you- a live band during dinner, a casino and more! Tickets are $140 a person and include mandatory transportation and a full dinner, including a carving station. Gatsby is waiting, buy your tickets today!!

 

Blood Drive

The Spring Blood Drive will be held on Thursday, April 28 in the gym. We will have a sign up table in the quad every day at lunch. You must be 16 with parent permission or 17. There are height and weight requirements. One donation can help three or more people. Save a Life! Donate Blood!

 

 

 

 

Spring Carnival

The Spring Carnival is on Friday, April 22 at lunch in the quad. This is a great time for Clubs, Fall Sports and more to get out, advertise and get sign-ups for next year. If you are interested in having a table, please stop by Room 602 for more information.

 

Graduation and Grad Night

  Graduation and Grad Nite will be here before you know it!! Come by the Grad Night table in the quad to make a payment towards your ticket. Planning is in full swing and we need to know how many students to plan for so come see Mrs. Rader and Mrs. Jones on any Wednesday or Thursday during lunch time. We don't want anyone to miss out on the fun!!

5th Grade Camp

Attention sophomores, juniors, seniors! Cabin counselors are needed at Exploring New Horizons Outdoor School for the week of May 9-13 with Ygnacio Valley Elementary or May 16-20 with El Monte.

Talent Show Winners

Congratulations to our 2016 Talent Show winners!! All contestants did such a great job- and look for our winners in the WOW assembly! 5th place- Jorge Bernabe-Velazquez, Joshua Datuin and Nelson Flores! In a tie for 3rd place are Ines Guillemont and Joe Young with Ivorya Geneve!

Are you interested in a position in Leadership? Would you like to be elected by your peers or appointed by a student panel? Without a doubt you WILL have to practice public speaking in college and nearly every career! Join us while we work and play in Drama--a safe and fun place to practice the important skills of listening, speaking, and of course laughing! Next year we will offer Drama 1, 2, and 3! Sign up--rule number one of improv: always say "Yes and!"

 

Prom
