Vocal Music

Vocal Music

The Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers at YVHS are under the direction of Rose Loth. The award-winning choirs perform at a variety of venues and participate in many activities during the school year, including our traditional Carols by Candlelight program, the Pops Concert, and many more. Students may take Concert Choir to fulfill the one-year Fine Arts requirement under the UC/CSU guidelines. For more information regarding Vocal Music at YVHS, please email lothm@mdusd.org or drop by the the Choir Room (M-1) after school.

Concert Choir (Vocal Music II) is an intermediate level, mixed voice choir that focuses on basic vocal technique and the elements of music. Students will rehearse and perform choral music of different styles, languages, and periods in up to 4 parts. Culminating school, community, and festival performances are a component of this class, with a major performance each quarter. Concert Choir will help a student prepare for Madrigal Singers (Vocal Music III). Membership is open to all.

Madrigal Singers (Vocal Music III) is the advanced choir at YVHS. This is a course open to students in grades 9-12 by teacher recommendation (short audition). Interested students should be able to demonstrate advanced skill and knowledge of vocal techniques, elements of music, and interpretation of musical styles, periods, and cultures. The Madrigal Singers perform for many school and community occasions as well as the District Choral Festival.
